1. Scope
1.1 This test method covers the measurement of the rate of absorption (sorptivity) of water by hydraulic cement concrete, by measuring the increase in the mass of a specimen resulting from the absorption of water as a function of time when only one surface of the specimen is exposed to water. Two procedures are described. In procedure A, the exposed surface of the specimen is immersed in water and water ingress is by capillary suction. In procedure B, water is ponded on top of the specimen and gravity assists in water ingress.
1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard.
1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
