Interlaboratory Crosscheck Test Programs /

Fuel Ethanol

Fee: $576

Schedule: April, August, December

Sample amount distributed each test month: approx 1 liter.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

ASTM Interlaboratory Crosscheck Program (ILCP) Center is pleased to offer a Fuel Ethanol ILCP to laboratories who need a statistical quality assurance tool that will enable them to improve, and maintain a high level of performance in conducting routine ASTM tests on hydraulic fluids/ oils by comparing their results with other laboratories worldwide.

This program launched in August 2007 with an additional test cycle scheduled for December 2007. The PTP is scheduled to be conducted three (3) times annually beginning in 2008.

As a program participant, you will receive a one liter sample supply of D4806 commercial grade ethanol. This ethanol will be a denatured fuel ethanol intended to be blended with gasolines at 1-10 volume % for use as a spark-ignition automotive engine fuel. You will also receive detailed test instructions for each test cycle and the appropriate data reporting email links essential to on-line data entry of your data for each trail.

Your laboratory performs the tests that you normally conduct within your own facility using the specified ASTM methods in the program scope. Single determinations by each laboratory are required, as the program does not allow the reporting of averages of replicate determinations.

NOTE: Participation is not contingent upon performing all program tests.

Upon completion of testing, each laboratory submits their own data on-line, electronically to ASTM for use in generating electronic statistical summary reports that contain:

  • Coded laboratory test results
  • Statistical analyses of test data
  • Charts plotting test results versus laboratory code
  • Histograms plus Box &s; Whisker Plots

WHY SHOULD YOUR LABORATORY PARTICIPATE?

The primary reason to participate is that you will receive test results, available only to participating laboratories, that will help you:

  • Monitor strengths and weaknesses of your laboratory's performance.
  • Periodically compare your test results and calculated statistical parameters with other laboratories.
  • Compare test data for a given quality parameter with laboratories using different ASTM test methods.

NOTE: Performance of all program tests in NOT a condition of participation!

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

The program will be conducted three times per year in April, August, and December. The annual fee is $576. Samples, test instructions, and electronic data report forms are made available to each participant preceding the test month. Labs have approximately six weeks to electronically submit their data to ASTM. Final statistical summary reports are distributed electronically to participants approximately 20-25 business days from due date for trial data.

DISTRIBUTION OF SAMPLES

Test samples are prepared and distributed for ASTM-ILCP by Clark Laboratories LLC, Jefferson Hills, PA. Program registration fees include the cost of shipping test materials to domestic laboratory participants only.

IMPORTANT: Non-continental U.S. participants have the following options for receipt of samples:

  • Ship through a third party shipping agent. Provide ASTM Intl. with the complete address and phone number of your designated U.S. Trans-Shipping Agent who will be responsible for shipping samples from the U.S. to your facility. Participants are responsible for making financial and shipping arrangements to receive samples directly with your shipping agent.
  • Ship directly from sample distributor via UPS, DHL, or FEDEX. Provide ASTM with your shipping account number to cover shipping charges. Check that your carrier will deliver test materials to your location.
