Drexel University

Dr. Jonathan Cheng of Drexel University and ASTM International staff manager Kevin Shanahan participated in an educational event for engineering students at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA on April 21, 2008.

Dr. Cheng, an Associate Professor of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, is an active member on ASTM Committee D35 on Geosynthetics and the chairman of subcommittee D35.93 on Editorial and Terminology. He explained to the students the value of standards in Geosynthetics and the importance of participation in ASTM technical committees. Dr. Cheng has been a member of Committee D35 since 1986 and recently joined another Committee E11 on Statistics.

Dr. Cheng elaborated on the ASTM standards development process and emphasized the international significance of Committee D35 as a leader in standards for Geosynthetics.

Peter Brazaitis, a senior majoring in civil engineering and the president of the Drexel student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), helped organize the event in conjunction with the organization.

ASTM International continues to promote Academic Outreach to Universities and students and the Standards on Campus product. For more information, please contact Ileane Smith by email ismith@astm.org or phone 610/832-9552.
