New Test Method for Respirable/Releasable Fiber Concentration of Asbestos and Other Fibers using the Fluidized Bed Aerosol Segregator

1. Scope
This method may be used as a sampling and analysis technique on any soil sample where it is important to determine potential risk from releasable, respirable fibers such as Asbestos, Erionite or other harmful mineral fibers.
Keywords
soil, asbestos, erionite, NOA, natural occurrences of asbestos, naturally occurring asbestos, risk, respirable, releasable, TEM, Fluidized Bed, FBAS
Rationale

Typical soil analysis methods determine overall percentage of contaminants (such as asbestos). Results from these methods provide little insight into the associated risk. The Fluidized Bed method quantifies the amount of releasable or respirable material from the soil thereby providing the investigator with a metric that can be used for risk assessment.
