ASTM WK60713
Revision of F1875-98(2014) Standard Practice for Fretting Corrosion Testing of Modular Implant Interfaces: Hip Femoral Head-Bore and Cone Taper Interface
Rationale
The F1875 is being revised to add a new Method I to the standard for accelerated method of evaluating modular tapers to better simulate fretting corrosion that can occur In ViVo. The new Method I was balloted separately at the subcommittee level in the Fall of 2015. The first ballot was Spring 2015. There were three comments and eleven negatives. It was decided after that ballot to incorporate this new accelerated method into the F1875 standard. The F1875 standard was also in need of revision. After a short review of the proposed new F1875 revision at the Spring 2017 meeting, it was agreed to ballot it at the subcommittee. The document has been reviewed and further clarifications and revision have been made.
