ASTM WK77776
Revision of E84-21a Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials
Rationale
Certain materials have a tendency to melt and drip to the floor of the ASTM / UL723 test chamber when tested, making them more difficult to evaluate than many other materials. Currently, when conducting tests to ASTM E84, there are varying practices when assigning flame spread and smoke developed values to products that exhibit these behaviors. The purpose of this work item is to clarify the assignment and reporting of flame spread and smoke developed indices for materials that have behavior of melting, dripping, and advancing flame on the floor of the tunnel during testing.
