New Test Method for Analysis of Arsine in Gaseous Hydrocarbons by Dry Colorimetry
1. Scope
This test method covers the determination of arsine in gaseous fuels using dry colorimetry technology. It is applicable to the measurement of arsine in natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), alkanes and alkenes, recycle gases, flare gasses, biogas and mixtures of fuel gases. The applicable range is 32 to 25000 parts per billion by volume (ppb/v) (22.3103 to 17.4 mg/m3 at standard condition) and may be extended to 100 parts per million by volume (ppm/v) arsine by manual or automatic volumetric dilution or loop injection. Keywords
arsine, colorimetry, natural gas, fuel qualityRationale
Presence of arsine adversely impacts fuel quality, and can adversely impact public health if released to the atmosphere. Users include regulators, natural gas providers and users, biogas providers and users and flare gas stakeholders. A consensus standard for determination of arsine in hydrocarbon gaseous fuels does not exist and is needed for the various gaseous fuels industries including biogas stakeholders.
