New Practice for Describing and Specifying Inductively Coupled Plasma (Quadrupole) Mass Spectrometers
1. Scope
This practice describes the components of an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS), primarily quadrupole that are basic to its operation and performance. The practice identifies critical factors influencing measurement repeatability, sensitivity, selectivity (resolution), sources of bias, and other analytical performance indicators. It is not the intent of this practice to specify component tolerances or performance criteria, since these are unique for each instrument. A prospective user should consult with the manufacturer, before placing an order, to design a testing protocol that will demonstrate that the instrument meets all anticipated needs. Keywords
