Building codes with a focus on wildfire include language that specifies gutters be provided with a means to limit accumulation of vegetative debris. This regulation is intended to minimize the chance of ember ignitions of debris that can accumulate in gutters. Building code officials have generally interpreted this provision to mean that a gutter cover device be installed. Currently there isn't a standard procedure to evaluate the performance of these devices.
