Rationale

ASTM C31/C31M requires the performance of air content testing for specimens fabricated in the field. This is irrespective of whether the mixture is air entrained. It is important that a baseline air content for comparison be established during the mixture design process. Therefore, It is proposed to remove “when required” from section 8.2.2, so that air content testing is performed for all mixtures during the design process.
