ASTM WK89689

Revision of C1365-18 Standard Test Method for Determination of the Proportion of Phases in Portland Cement and Portland-Cement Clinker Using X-Ray Powder Diffraction Analysis

Rationale

Note 2 defines the temperature range for gypsum dehydration. Research has shown that the exact temperature at which gypsum dehydration occurs depends on water vapor pressure. As the note describes the process of clinker grinding, where vapor pressure fluctuates, I believe it is important to not mislead the reader with specific temperatures. Based upon negatives and comments I received on the initial ballot; I have left the general verbiage explaining the gypsum dehydration process.
