ASTM WK89872
Revision of F1506-22 Standard Performance Specification for Flame Resistant and Electric Arc Rated Protective Clothing Worn by Workers Exposed to Flames and Electric Arcs
Rationale
Revise Section 9.3.1 and 9.3.6. Change 1: Modify 9.3.1 to remove potential loophole Fabric producers typically work directly with 3rd party certifiers to certify their fabrics for NFPA 2112. Quarterly audits are part of this certification process. Some garment manufacturers have been granted 2112 component certification for fabrics they did not produce. These fabrics could be produced at mills that are not being audited by 3rd party certifiers. The task group wants to ensure that this type of NFPA 2112 component certification does not waive any requirements in F1506. Change 2: Modify 9.3.6 to clarify intent Section 5 covers 3 types of testing required for fabrics: • Design Tests, • Annual Tests (or every 50,000 yards), and • Lot Tests. Section 9.3.6 was modified to clarify that it applies to all test data required by Section 5, not just “lot test data”.
