Rationale

Glycol with a pH above the pH of phenolphthalein end point as described in 10.1.2.2 is underreported on esters content when tested according to the current test method. This revision introduces a correction by titrating such a solution with 0.02 N H2SO4 until it turns colorless. Then regular titration using 0.02 N NaOH, as described in 10.1.2.2 is to follow. The volume of this titrant will not be recorded or used otherwise. These steps serve the purpose of correcting the starting point of esters titration for glycols with a pH as described above.
