New Test Method for Test Method for Determination of Particle Size Distribution of Lime and Limestone by Laser Light Scattering
1. Scope
1.1 This test method covers the determination of the particle size distribution by light scattering, reported as volume percent, of particulate materials including lime, limestone and related materials. 1.2 This test method applies to analyses with both aqueous and non-aqueous dispersions. In addition, analysis can be performed with a gaseous dispersion for materials that are hygroscopic or react with a liquid carrier. 1.3 This test method is applicable to the measurement of particulate materials in the range of 0.4 to 5000 µm, or a subset of that range, as applicable to the particle size distribution being measured. 1.4 Units – The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee. Keywords
particle size distribution, laser light scattering, laser diffraction,,Rationale
Many companies involved in C07 use this technique currently, however there is no standard to provide guidance. This standard will be used to give guidance to any lime, limestone or related material producer or consumer to observe best practices in this technique.
