ASTM WK91117
Revision of C94/C94M-24a Standard Specification for Ready-Mixed Concrete
Rationale
This change removes Option C for ordering concrete, in which the producer assumes responsibility for concrete proportions but with a minimum cement content set by the purchaser. Minimum cement content limits restrict the ability of concrete producers to achieve increasingly stringent targets for embodied carbon while not assuring concrete performance. They may increase susceptibility to shrinkage, cracking, and excess heat of hydration. The cement content should be established considering all relevant factors of the mix design, including but not limited to SCM content, w/cm ratio, aggregate gradation, and use of chemical admixtures. This can be done by ordering Options A and B.
