ASTM WK91446

Revision of D972-22 Standard Test Method for Evaporation Loss of Lubricating Greases and Oils

Rationale

ASTM D972 permits the evaluation of both oils and greases from 100°C to 150°C, while ASTM D2595 permits only the evaluation of greases from 93°C to 316°C. Some users desire to evaluate oils above 150°C, yet no precision statement exists in either test method. The current note references D2595 as if it covers both oils and greases, but the scope for D2595 only permits the evaluation of grease. The modified note is intended to clarify the proper usage of D972 and D2595 above 150°C, for both oils and greases.
