New Practice for Measuring Indented Steel Wire Geometrical Parameters

1. Scope
This standard defines the procedures to measure geometrical features of indented wires. This standard applies to steel wires with discrete indents at a reoccurring pitch, including, but not limited to, patterns of the “chevron” and “elliptical” shape. An example of these types of indented wire is shown in Figure 3.
Keywords
Indented wire; steel wire, indent geometry, transfer length, bite per length
Rationale

The de?nitions and procedures for measuring geometrical characteristics of indented wire are provided so that purchasers and suppliers have common de?nitions and measuring procedures for indent characteristics. The intention of these de?nitions and measuring methods is not to provide a dimensional speci?cation for indent characteristics, but rather common measurement procedure(s) for quantifying indent geometry. This practice was developed to specifically characterize indents from ASTM A881/A881M wire for use in prestressed concrete; however, this practice could be applied to other negatively-indented wire products.
