ASTM WK91553
Revision of D1322-24 Standard Test Method for Smoke Point of Kerosene and Aviation Turbine Fuel
Rationale
A ballot was approved during the winter 2021 ASTM Subcommittee J01 meeting to revise ASTM D1322. The SP20 model was added to the test method last year (updated footnote 5), but the operation of the SP20 was not included in the ballot. The specific to the SP20 operation is that the barometric pressure is measured by built-in sensor and recorded automatically at the calibration or sample testing. This automation helps in reducing operator’s errors compare to former SP10 model where the operator must enter the barometric pressure value manually. This ballot includes the modification to section 11 “Procedure” for Automated Apparatus to accommodate both ways of operation. It also adds in section 10 “Calibration” for Automated Apparatus an instruction for pressure sensor verification and calibration
