ASTM WK91764
Revision of D7826-23b Standard Guide for Evaluation of New Aviation Gasolines and New Aviation Gasoline Additives
Rationale
Rationale for revision One of the concerns frequently raised during Subcommittee review of data packages prepared by fuel and additive offerors, is related to gathering data on actual aircraft in actual use. Fuel providers in the past have utilized a limited-scale introduction type approach where data was collected and used for further evaluation of fitness-for-purpose. This has permitted the identification of any issues which would have been beyond the ability of laboratory testing (such as that provided in this guide) to identify. The use of a limited-scale service evaluation managed by the fuel offeror and evaluated in conjunction with the equipment manufacturers provides an opportunity to collect data on a wide range of aircraft under actual use conditions. By collecting this data and periodically reporting to the Subcommittee, additional standard actions may be identified prior to wide-scale distribution. Note that it is not the intention of this service evaluation to impede the procurement of a production specification for a fuel or additive nor its authorization for use, but rather to facilitate the collection of data in a controlled manner to further support the wide-scale distribution of the fuel/additive.
