1. Scope

This practice provides requirements related to the maintenance program for Light Sport Aircraft, the qualifications to accomplish the various levels of maintenance, and handling of major repairs and alterations.

Rationale

This standard would support the proposed rulemaking and separate the Light Sport Aircraft Maintenance Program and Maintenance Manual standards. Currently, light-sport aircraft are subject to the maintenance requirements of §?91.327. The rule would revise the maintenance requirements for light-sport category aircraft in §?91.327 regarding safety directives and major and minor repairs and alterations. Additionally, the FAA is proposing conforming changes to §§?91.417, 43.1, 43.13, and 65.
