ASTM WK91951
Revision of C780-23 Standard Test Methods for Preconstruction and Construction Evaluation of Mortars for Plain and Reinforced Unit Masonry
Rationale
Currently, in several locations in C780, the term ‘portland’ cement is used. As the industry continues to evolve, and increasing number of hydraulic cements other than portland cement can be used in mortar. In addition, C270 no longer refers to portland cement-lime mortars. Instead, it has three categories of mortars called ‘cement-lime’, ‘masonry cement’, and ‘mortar cement’. The task group reviewed each instance of ‘portland’ and determined modified wording to improve clarity and consistency with Specification C270. This ballot item proposes to make those changes. Note that this item was previously balloted and received a persuasive negative. The ballot has been modified based on that negative, primarily to improve the language and remove the lists of different types of cements.
