Rationale

Currently, in Annex A2, Test Method for Consistency Retention (Board Life) of Mortars for Unit Masonry Using a Cone Penetrometer, there are methods both for ‘disturbed’ and ‘undisturbed’ samples. The only known specification to reference this method (C1384, Specification for Admixtures for Masonry Mortars) uses the disturbed method. Furthermore, the task group feels that ‘undisturbed’ testing is not representative to how mortar is used in the field. This ballot item proposes to delete the references to ‘undisturbed sample’ in Annex A2. In addition to the changes in Annex A2, the definitions for ‘disturbed sample’ and ‘undisturbed sample’ are no longer needed and are being deleted.
