Rationale

The current standard does not include out-of-square tolerances as found in similar standards for clay brick, or address the application of these tolerances to shaped thin brick, or nonlinear dimensions or surfaces. This ballot item proposes to add out-of-square tolerances, corresponding to those of ASTM C216 and appropriate for application to thin brick, to promote consistency in appearance requirements between thin brick and face brick, as well as incorporate a note, identical to that found in ASTM C216 that clarifies how tolerances for thin brick with nonlinear dimensions or surfaces are determined.
