ASTM WK92345
Revision of D8584-24 Standard Guide for Testing of Preformed Thermoplastic Pavement Marking Material in the Laboratory and Installed Preformed Thermoplastic Pavement Markings in the Field
Rationale
Change the definition of composite optics in section 3.2.2 to the current version of the definition found in D8424-21- Standard Guide for Retroreflective Composite Optics Laboratory Procedures section 3.1.4. During the development of D8424-21 the committee updated the definition for composite optics to include three types of construction and remove refractive index as a part of the definition. The new definition was felt to be an improvement as it was more inclusive to those constructions found in the market and removed unnecessary restrictions around refractive index. From: 3.2.2 composite optics, n—multi-component retroreflective particle comprised of a pigmented core (typically white or yellow) combined with very small glass or ceramic beads having a refractive index of between 1.90 and 2.4. To: D8424-21- Standard Guide for Retroreflective Composite Optics Laboratory Procedures. 3.1.4 retroreflective composite optics, n—a multi[1]component retroreflective optical construction including but not limited to: (1) A core covered with a pigmented adhesive and small glass or ceramic optical beads. (2) A cluster of optical ceramic or glass beads distributed in a polymeric matrix. (3) An optical glass bead core, covered with a pigmented adhesive and small glass or ceramic optical beads.
