ASTM WK92454

Revision of F1962-22 Standard Guide for Use of Maxi-Horizontal Directional Drilling for Placement of Polyethylene Pipe or Conduit Under Obstacles, Including River Crossings

Rationale

ASTM F1962 is a relatively extensive document that provides both high-level information regarding the construction and installation process, as well as a means of selecting the pipe strength (i.e., wall-thickness, DR) to withstand the loads experienced during the installation and post-installation phases. However, the application of the technical information and procedures within F1962 is non-trivial, sometimes requiring engineering judgment. Useful information in the application of these guidelines has therefore been provided in the following ASCE technical paper (2011): "PPI-BoreAid: A Preliminary Design Tool for Horizontal Directional Drilling using Polyethylene Pipeline". The present work item proposes to include this reference in F1962.
