Rationale

A member of the subcommittee identified a reference to a specific test method from a test method in paragraph 8.1 that is difficult to utilize in their application which is medium carbon steels. The language in question is as follows: "(see Plate 4, Austenitic Grain Size in Steels)". Plate 4 is associated with a particular method of revealing austenite grains that is difficult to apply to medium carboin steels. It was requested that the paragraph be revised to remove the restrictive language, thereby allowing any appropriate method from ASTM E112 to be utilized, and not restrict the allowable tests to the method associated with plate 4. This proposal was met with approval by the members attending the May 2024 meeting.
