ASTM WK92862
New Specification for Liquefied Petroleum Gases and Gas Mixtures Intended for Use in Herbal Extraction and Refinement Applications
1. Scope
1.1. This standard shall cover the specifications for refined liquefied petroleum gases (LPGs) and gas mixtures intended for use in herbal extraction. 1.2. This standard shall define the minimum gas concentration, allowable impurities, and contaminates that must be controlled. 1.3. This standard shall define the test methods for verifying the defined constituents are within specification. 1.4. This standard shall define the specifications for the assembly of compressed gas cylinders used for storing LPGs intended for herbal extraction. 1.5. This standard shall not cover raw (unrefined) liquefied petroleum gases or gas mixtures produced by gas refineries. Keywords

The following compressed gas specification was developed in collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders representing Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and Tier 4 gas distributors, cannabinoid product manufacturers, and cannabinoid extract consumers. The intent of this standard is to: ? Provide specifications for liquefied petroleum gases (LPGs), specifically n-butane, isobutane, and propane, intended for use in herbal extraction and refinement activities. Specifications shall include minimum gas concentration, allowable impurities and contaminates that must be controlled. ? Outline the test methods for verifying the defined constituents are withing specification. ? Provide specifications for the assembly of compressed gas cylinders used for storage of LPGs intended for use in herbal extraction and refinement activities. While most of the input for this standard did come from North America, an effort was made to solicit as much feedback from impacted global marketplaces as possible. This standard is only the beginning and attempts to address a major gap regarding impurity and contaminant specifications for compressed gases used in herbal extraction. Please remember that ASTM International standards are living documents and are intended to be updated and revised over time. This initial version will not be perfect, but it will serve to provide marketplaces with the information they need to make informed decisions regarding compressed gas requirements and regulations.
