ASTM WK92972

Revision of C168-24 Standard Terminology Relating to Thermal Insulation

Rationale

On a previous ballot C1130, there was a negative vote by a building scientist on the usage of the term building envelope. The voter questioned whether ASTM’s defined definition of the building’s “shell” was envelope or enclosure. The voter graciously withdrew his negative vote with the proviso that the terminology would be discussed further in a larger context i.e., C16.94 Sub-Committee would address the issue. The C1130 Task Group is seeking guidance on the future use of the two terms in C16 standards.
