Rationale

The measured impact strength of forged steel products has been shown to be independent of the notch orientation of the specimen. This ballot seeks to make clear that the choice of notch orientation is to be made at the discretion of the forging manufacturer when not otherwise specified in a product standard or by the purchaser.
