Rationale

When D7579 was first published in 2008 there was only Intermediate precision available as at that time, due to the limited number of samples and participating labs was insufficient to conduct a full interlaboratory study (ILS). In 2018 CEN conducted an ILS for pyrolysis liquids that included ASTM D7579. The request for permission is hereby granted by CEN for ASTM International Committee D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants to use CEN ILS data to use data from the Inter-Laboratory Study (ILS) on solids content determination of pyrolysis oil, executed by CEN/TC 19/WG 41, for the purpose of the revision by ASTM of its standard D7579. CEN agreed to share the findings of the interlaboratory study for D7579 and gave permission for the precision data to be used by ASTM for balloting for inclusion into D7579. The subsection of this report CEN/TC19 RRT-400 Titled “Assessment for Checking the Applicability of Several Petroleum Test Methods for Fast Pyrolysis Bio-Oil that pertained to D7579 has been included with this ballot as a supporting document.
