Rationale

At the December ASTM meeting in Anaheim, CA, a vote in D02.J01 introduced a ballot to change D1655 Tables 1 and A1.1, to be consistent with the approach the subcommittee adopted for identifying referee methods in the specification tables of the standard. 10 years ago, J01 committee introduced metrological methods for the analysis of D3241 heater deposits. A footnote was included to tell the user that metrological methods were preferred over visual and A3 was the referee method. “In case of dispute between results from visual and metrological methods, the referee shall be considered the Annex A3 ETR method if available, otherwise Annex A2 ITR or Annex A4 MWETR.” In the interim, the Subcommittee J01 Editorial Review Panel developed a preferred method of identifying referee methods in D1655, which was subsequently approved by the subcommittee. Both Tables 1 and A1.1 and the footnote U are proposed for modification to reflect the recommended changes.
