Revision of D8545-23e1 Standard Test Method for Determination of the Metal Deactivator Additive (MDA) (N,N'-disalicylidene-1,2-propanediamine) Content in Aviation Turbine Fuel by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)

Rationale

This revision of D8545 is specific to Procedure A and addresses a variation in fuel samples received wherein a range of compounds were present in a subset of the samples. These compounds, when present, coelute with MDA under the previous conditions causing an erroneously high result for determined MDA content. The newly proposed conditions separate the interfering compounds away from the MDA peak resulting in accurate determination of MDA in the full range of JETA samples. An additional note is added to the preparation of “Stock” for calibration standards to ensure complete dilution of MDA, hence accurate results.
