Work Item

ASTM WK93731

Revision of F2129-24 Standard Test Method for Conducting Cyclic Potentiodynamic Polarization Measurements to Determine the Corrosion Susceptibility of Small Implant Devices

Rationale

This ballot item removes the requirement from the standard to report the surface area associated with the sample and the associated calculation of the current density (i.e. current normalized with sample surface area). ASTM F2129-24 requires reporting of the values Eb and Er, however there is no requirement to report the corrosion current density (icorr). Thus, it is unnecessary to report the current density as the measured potential and current are sufficient to determine Eb.
