New Specification for the Design for Disposal of All-In-One (AIO) Herbal Material and Herbal Extract Vaporizer Devices
1. Scope
A design specification requiring herbal material and herbal extract vaporizer devices to include a feature where the battery and other components can be easily removed/separated from the rest of the device for proper disposal. Ensures the device cannot be put back together after disassembly. Ensures the device does not electrocute the user during disassembly and that all electrical components are rendered inoperable/inert upon disassembly. Incorporates a standardized non-proprietary feature/mechanism enabling disassembly. Keywords
cannabis; hemp; marijuana; cannabinoid; waste; hazardous waste; delivery systemRationale
The proposed Design for Disposal (D4D) Specification for herbal material and herbal extract vaporizer devices is intended to establish requirements for all new vape devices to be designed for easy disassembled and disposal or reuse of components. It addresses the emergency need to assist authorities having jurisdiction with increasing volumes of unique recyclables and hazardous waste which complicate waste disposal and overwhelm traditional waste disposal infrastructure. The proposed standard is intended to be used by vape device manufacturers to facilitate the design and build of D4D vape devices and UN SDG by incorporating end-of-life considerations into components and hardware that are notoriously difficult to dispose of properly. The proposed standard is intended to be used by authorities having jurisdiction as an enforceable requirement that can be incorporated by reference into regulation to help reduce e-waste and meet environmental protection mandates.
