Rationale

TM D5769 was developed and used for many years for regulatory purposes to determine total aromatics in spark ignition fuels. More recently, in addition to total aromatics, it has also been recognized for the determination of benzene. The ballot below introduces a quality control section to monitor benzene for laboratories using the TM for benzene reporting.
