Rationale

TG was informed that manufacturers currently may replace parts featuring design changes without notifying the purchaser or following F2291 design requirements. This ballot addresses design requirements for replacement parts or components in accordance with F2291, including when major modifications have been made.    Example: A manufacturer may supply replacement parts or components with different coatings, materials, and dimensions yet still fit like the previous revision. However, these changes may not meet the design requirements of F2291, and the purchaser may not be aware of these modifications. NOTE #1: The term “major modification” is still used in F1193. A separate Task Group is working on replacing this term, but it has not been approved. Therefore, we must use the term “major modification” for now.
