New Test Methods for New Standard Determining the Hydraulic Capacity of Trash Screens Installed in Stormwater Structures.
1. Scope
Develop a standard method for determining the hydraulic capacity and flow rates of trash screens from hydraulic testing a section of the screen. The scope will include methods for screens installed in stormwater infrastructure such as catch basins, manhole and underground chambers. It will consist of methods for free discharge and inflow operation of the screen. Keywords

The approach to designing trash screens is inconsistent, with limited guidance from regulators. Some jurisdictions are starting to regulate trash capture by requiring the treatment of certain rainfall events. A consistent method is needed to calculate the flow through a screen installed in a drainage structure. The techniques allow for testing a section of the screen and determining the hydraulic capacity of the screen in a larger drainage structure without the need for laboratory testing of a full-size structure.
