New Guide for ASTM Traceability Standards
1. Scope
Traceability means different things to different people depending on the specific context that they are working in. For instance, people working in transport and logistics will generally view Traceability as “limited” to tracking and tracing of transport units between an origin and a destination location. People working in Supply or Value Chain contexts will generally view Traceability as related to a specific Product, its provenance and that of all (main) materials, components and parts that go into the Product. ASTM provides standards for traceability (and will develop even more) in both contexts. This guide will provide guidance to anyone interested in understanding the field of Traceability Standards at a high level and also list the various ASTM Traceability standards and their specific areas of application. The guide itself will NOT describe any of the listed standards in detail and cover them just enough so the reader of the guide would be able to select the most relevant standard/s to review to meet their business needs. Keywords

The need for Traceability standards is rapidly developing due to both Regulatory and Industry business requirements that have been emerging and continue to emerge in ever increasing numbers. ASTM currently already offers Traceability standards and plans to develop several more. To help users find the ASTM Traceability standards they need easily, this guide provides the “landing platform” that provides the overview of the ASTM Traceability standards and the means to select the most relevant ones to review quickly
