As a member of ASTM International, you can make a difference in your industry by contributing to the development of standards. Luckily, there are also many ways to make that membership work for you.

01 ENGAGE

Prioritize the business objectives that were the original catalyst for joining your ASTM technical committee. By joining the subcommittees that have jurisdiction over the standards you use, you can impact the direction of your field. You can volunteer to review those standards as they come up for review and even serve as the primary author or technical contact if needed.

02 NETWORK

Use the technical committee as a resource to develop a technical network, gain industry insights, and keep up to date on the latest trends and newest technologies being introduced to the market. By attending in-person meetings, volunteering for task groups, and engaging in committee social events, you will have the opportunity to meet industry leaders and interact with your peers. Those unable to attend in-person should consider reviewing agendas and minutes to keep up to date with the technical developments happening in the committee. ASTM staff can always assist with member introductions as needed.

03 LEARN

Gain access to valuable information and resources through ASTM staff and different divisions related to international trade and global policy. Take advantage of workshops and symposia, training and e-learning courses, and the Interlaboratory Studies Program (ILS) to stay informed about regulatory issues impacting your industry. For additional support or questions, you can work with ASTM staff to utilize internal resources in other divisions.

To deepen your understanding of the consensus process, you can always connect with the committee staff manager or take one of ASTM’s online training sessions. Staff can also provide the different resources available through ASTM HQ.
