Call for Papers for ASTM Workshop on Low-Carbon Concrete
This workshop will examine the release of new code requirements, government grants, and the increased use of reduced carbon materials.
Mar 31, 2025
ASTM International is hosting a Workshop on Low-Carbon Concrete: Industry Trends and their Impact on ASTM Cement and Concrete Standards, to be held Dec. 7, 2025, in Atlanta, GA. The event is sponsored by ASTM International committees on cement (C01) and concrete and concrete aggregates (C09), and will be held in conjunction with the committees standards development meetings.
This workshop will examine the release of new code requirements, government grants, and the increased use of reduced carbon materials. The goal is to measure their impact on ASTM International’s standards, guides, practices, and test methods used in the cement and concrete industry.
Topics for this workshop include:
- Common definitions, such as
- GWP (basics, calculations, examples)
- What are the implications or missing elements within the cement and concrete committees’ documents that need to be addressed?
- What does this mean for testing (procedures, results, prequalification), timeliness of results versus application?
- Qualification, classification, and definition of new materials
- Adapting and new materials such as Type IL or Type IT cement, SCMs, etc.
- Policy adoptions in practice, i.e. who is using or demanding this type of concrete?
To participate in the workshop, authors must submit a 250 to 300-word preliminary abstract no later than May 16, 2025, to the workshop chairs, Rich Szecsy (rich.szecsy@gmail.com) or Nick Popoff (njpopoff@comcast.net).
