ASTM International’s hazardous substances and oil spill response committee (F20) is developing a proposed standard for measuring the evaporation rate of oils and petroleum.
According to ASTM member Merv Fingas, the proposed standard (WK92298) will provide a uniform way to develop an equation that can be used to predict the evaporation of oil that has been released in a spill.
The proposed standard will be most useful to laboratories that are conducting oil spill studies.
All interested parties are encouraged to join the F20 committee in its standards development activities.
ASTM welcomes participation in the development of its standards. Become a member at JOIN ASTM.
