Work Item

ASTM WK93462

Revision of C1583/C1583M-20 Standard Test Method for Tensile Strength of Concrete Surfaces and the Bond Strength or Tensile Strength of Concrete Repair and Overlay Materials by Direct Tension (Pull-off Method)

Rationale

Section 6.4 currently specifies a tensile loading device capable of applying a 22kN force to the test disc. This test force is much higher than necessary to create failure in the substrate in many cases. This requirement unnecessarily restricts the user to fewer choices in instrumentation. There was also no standard required for verification of the testing force. Lastly, there was no resolution requirement for the display of the measured load. This work item makes the language similar to C1857 so that instruments with lower test force capacity may be used, includes a resolution requirement, and adds the requirement to verify testing force in accordance with E4 of E74.
