Retired chemicals expert Donald Snyder, Ph.D., formerly of Atotech in Rock Hill, South Carolina, has received the Frederick A. Lowenheim Memorial Award from ASTM International Committee B08 on Metallic and Inorganic Coatings.

A member of ASTM and Committee B08 since 1975, Snyder was honored for his high competence and professionalism in the technology of metallic and inorganic finishes. He works on several B08 subcommittees and is also a member of Committee G01 on Corrosion of Metals and the Joint  ASTM/NACE Committee on Corrosion. An ASTM fellow, he received the Award of Merit, ASTM’s highest recognition for individual contributions, in 1996.

Snyder received his doctorate in physical chemistry from Case Western University and holds an MBA from John Carroll University. He worked in various managerial roles during a more than 40-year career at Harshaw Chemical Co. in Cleveland, Ohio, starting as research director in 1970. Harshaw Chemical was acquired and become Atotech in 1993. Snyder held the title of worldwide technical manager when he retired from Atotech in 2011.

Outside ASTM, Snyder is a member of the National Association for Surface Finishing, and also serves on the NASF board of directors.
