John Kurtz, executive vice president at the International Staple, Nail and Tool Association, La Grange, Illinois, has received the ASTM International Award of Merit from Committee F16 on Fasteners.
The award, which includes the accompanying title of ASTM fellow, is the highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities. The committee honored Kurtz for his dedicated participation and technical expertise in the development of standards for the fastener industry.
A member of ASTM International since 1986, Kurtz has served as chairman of Subcommittee F16.05 on Driven and Other Fasteners since 1997. He is also active In several other ASTM committees, including Metallic-Coated Iron and Steel Products, Wood, Packaging, Performance of Buildings, Pedestrian/Walkway Safety and Footwear, and Corrosion of Metals, as well as the Joint ASTM/NACE Committee on Corrosion.
A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Kurtz also holds an MBA from Northwestern University. He joined the International Staple, Nail and Tool Association as technical director in 1977 and assumed his current role in 1995.
Kurtz is a member of several other groups in addition to ASTM, including the American National Standards Institute, American Society of Safety Engineers, American Wood Protection Association, Forest Products Society, International Code Council, National Institute of Building Sciences, Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues and Wire Association International.
