Ned Waltz, senior engineer of product evaluation at Weyerhaeuser’s Technology Center in Federal Way, Washington, has received the L.J. Markwardt Award from ASTM International Committee D07 on Wood.

Waltz received the award in recognition of his extensive contributions to committee activities, particularly those related to the development of standards for the mechanical testing of wood and wood-based products. He currently serves as the committee’s producer vice chairman and leads the section on Mechanical Test Methods and Properties. An ASTM member since 2005, Waltz also works on the ASTM committees on Adhesives, Plastics and Performance of Buildings.

A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where he earned dual bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and forest science, Waltz received his master’s in structural engineering and wood science from Oregon State University. He was an engineer with Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts, before joining Trus Joist in Boise, Idaho, as an engineer in 1998. He assumed his current role with Weyerhaeuser in 2009.

Waltz is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Structural Engineering Institute in addition to ASTM International.
