Christopher C. White, Ph.D., acting group leader of the Polymeric Materials Group, Materials and Structural Systems Division of the Engineering Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg, Md., has received the ASTM International Lou Toporcer Hall of Fame Award. White was honored for distinguished service to Committee C24 on Building Seals and Sealants and his contributions to the development of building industry standards.

A member of ASTM International since 2002, White works on several C24 subcommittees and is chairman of C24.20 on General Test Methods. He also serves on Committees E06 on Performance of Buildings and E54 on Homeland Security Applications. Previous ASTM awards include a C24 Award of Appreciation and E54 Distinguished Service Award.

White, who specializes in rheology and service life prediction of polymer physics, joined NIST in 1997 as a National Research Council postdoctoral research associate. In his current role, he leads a team of researchers who are investigating the role of acceleration on the degradation of polymeric materials such as building sealants. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin−Madison, and holds an MBA from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Outside ASTM International, White is a member of the Adhesion Society, the American Chemical Society and the Society of Rheology. He has published numerous peer reviewed papers and conference proceedings, and has served as technical program chair for several national conferences related to rheology.
