ASTM International presented its top annual award – the 2024 Award of Merit – to Michael Schmeida for his contributions to ASTM’s sustainability committee (E60).
The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Schmeida was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the gypsum industry, and his guidance of many E60 standards, including its first standard on resilience.
Since 2015, Schmeida has served as director of codes, standards and research at Gypsum Association. An ASTM International member since 2004, Schmeida’s career focus has been in the building products industry, covering a variety of other roles such as product management, technical services, and regulatory affairs.
In previous years, Schmeida has received two Awards of Recognition from C11 (2018, 2020) and three Awards of Appreciation from E60 (2016, 2018, 2023).
Schmeida earned his bachelor of science (1998) and master of science (2000) degrees in chemistry from The University of Akron.
