Jeff Weiss, deputy director of the Office of Policy and Strategic Planning and a senior advisor to the Secretary within the U.S. Department of Commerce, Washington, D.C., USA will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors.
In his current role, Weiss specializes in standards, conformance, and global regulatory policy, digital economy, port and supply chain competitiveness, and aviation, including unmanned aircraft systems. Weiss has been with the Department since 2013. Previously, Weiss served as associate administrator for the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs in the Office of Management and Budget, senior director for technical barriers to trade and assistant general counsel for the Office of the United States Trade Representative in Washington D.C., and assistant legal advisor at the U.S. Mission to the World Trade Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
Weiss holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology, with a certificate in markets and management, from Duke University, and a J.D. and master in public policy from Harvard University.
Outside ASTM International, Weiss serves as the executive branch liaison to the American Bar Association’s Section of Administrative Law & Regulatory Practice and co-chair of the Section’s International Trade and Customs Committee.
