U.S. Standardization Center of Excellence for Critical and Emerging Technologies First Standardization Workshop

May 14, 2025 – May 15, 2025 | Washington, D.C.

Join us for the first Standardization Center of Excellence (SCoE) Critical and Emerging Technologies (CET) Standardization Workshop to help shape the future of CET standardization.

The SCoE is a transformative initiative aimed at supporting private sector-driven engagement and capacity building in the development and use of international standards.

What: The SCoE CET May 2025 Standardization Workshop will focus on engaging government, industry, academia, standards development organizations, implementing partners, and other stakeholders to share expertise and insights on the development and use of standards for CETs, challenges they are facing, and opportunities for acceleration.

Workshop objectives include:

  1. Introduce SCoE’s mission of enhancing U.S. leadership in international standardization.
  2. Identify standardization gaps and potential obstacles to participation within existing CETs.
  3. Identify tools and resources essential to supporting U.S. engagement in international standardization.

When: Wednesday May 14, 2025 and Thursday, May 15, 2025

Why you should attend: Hear from industry, academia, and government; provide your perspective; and help identify opportunities for CET standardization.

How to participate: Register your interest by April 15, 2025. ASTM will consider all individuals and inform participants of their invitation status.

  • Presentations from government agencies focused on the development and use of standards for CETs, challenges they are facing, and opportunities for acceleration.

  • Presentations from industry focused on their development and use of CETs, challenges they are facing, and opportunities for standardization.

Panel Discussion: Accelerating Standardization Processes

  • A panel of participants active in standards processes will share their experience and lessons learned on how to most effectively engage in standards development organizations and implementing partner activities and ideas for accelerating progress.

Participants will join one of 5 breakout parallel breakout sessions. Each breakout session will discuss the following question:

  • What specific standards activities are essential to accelerate progress and establish U.S. leadership in CETs?

BREAKOUT GROUPS: Establishing Needed Standards Activity Roadmaps

Participants will continue in their breakout sessions, answering:

  • What is the timeline for implementing the necessary standards activities to ensure U.S. leadership? How should these activities be sequenced over time?
  • How could we accelerate these timelines for greater U.S. leadership in this CET?
